I'm a double-dealing blobber with a taste for wuffery that was invited into The Shyguy Kingdom in the August of 2003.
My spriting roots, technically, came from a program called "The New Paint Shop" which ran on a computer of unknown age and model. Its OS was MS-DOS Shell, though, so that and a green/black monitor might give an idea of its age. By the time I entered fifth grade, my parents "upgraded" to a Macintosh Performa, and with that came ClarisWorks, "thousands" color support, and a 14.4 Kb/s modem; things I'd ever seen before. It was here (with help from PixelBoy's MegaMan site) where I started to learn the basics of copy, paste, and recolor. At times I'd "sprite" JPEG files into low-color GIFs by hand.
In hopes of joining the game development crowd with DigiPen's ProjectFUN program, I ordered MetalWuffer, a Gateway 7200SE, as I entered my early High School years. That was when I learned why many people have negative opinions regarding MS Paint. It was, to keep it short, a downgrade from nearly every aspect I liked about ClarisWorks. Luckily for me, Ultimo of The Lost Hoaxes (who lived in the same city as me) introduced me to the product "PhotoImpact 8" by Ulead. Since then, I've shown him a few things about sprites, graphics, and comedy.
Failing ProjectFUN, I started hopping around communities and stumbled upon CaptainN.net. I was originally an IRC user for a while (Where I got the nickname "Wuffichan" due to "Oracle_of_Wuffing" getting the last two letters cut off), but joined the forums for the first Sprite Competition. I was in a four-way tie in the "The Past's Future" competition, only to take first place in the second competition, "The Next New Thing". I've continued to participate in TSGK's competition.
I'm now trouncing around with Wuffytank, a custom-built Windows XP/Ubuntu Linux machine with two gigs of RAM and an ATI All-in-Wonder 9800 Pro video card. I doubt that I'll ever need to use all the power behind it, but it's nice to have it on hand.
